Meet the Healthcare Leaders Forum in Madinah

Best Practices in Healthcare, New Trends and Initiatives

Healthcare in KSA receives much attention from its leadership and is considered as a top priority. Ministry of Health (MOH) has played a pivotal role in continuously improving the healthcare infrastructure in the country and these developments have been made possible with the means of successive planned improvements carefully worked out over the years. As a result Saudi health care system is ranked 26th in the World amongst 190 health care systems by the World Health Organization. However, given an estimated population of almost 30 million residents and an annual growth rate of 2.7%, rapidly changing lifestyle and ever increasing growth trends in technology, demand for increasingly improved healthcare services is on the rise in Saudi Arabia. As a consequence, existing healthcare infrastructure is coming under increased strain; while investments in new healthcare capacity are placing a growing burden on public finances.

It is evident that pressure on the healthcare system is set to intensify over the years ahead. One of the reasons is the present demographic shift, it is expected that population group between the ages of 45 and 64 is likely to be one of the fastest-growing, increasing demand for essential healthcare services. Another reason is the ongoing shift of disease patterns from communicable to non-communicable diseases. For example, lifestyle changes have led to higher rates of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer, conditions that require lengthy and costly treatments. Finally, longer survival of previously incurable diseases, and advanced surgical procedures that makes post-operative intensive care admission mandatory is adding mounting pressure on the system. Many patients who required such treatment in the past, had to go abroad, while now it's possible to provide such advanced medical treatment locally. Thus these improvements in healthcare have further added to the increase in demand for high quality services and support.

It's easier to reach the top but it's difficult to maintain the position, this saying perfectly describes the current situation. But if we are determined to live up to the challenge, amongst several other measures there is a need to continuously improve our body of knowledge and to remain abreast with current industry challenges, best practices, new trends and unexplored opportunities. It is increasingly argued that resilience of nations lie not only in the physical infrastructure that enable their development but also in their 'soft' infrastructure - their human capital or more appropriately, their intellectual assets. It is the intellectual assets that breathes and gives life to the physical make-up and ensures sustainable development and prosperity.

This year, "Meet the Healthcare Leaders" forum focuses at providing you with industry best practices, new healthcare trends and unexplored opportunities in order to help you achieve success in this highly competitive environment.
